Step up
This is an initiative by MCYS to bring school social work programmes
to students, parents and staff of school. We engaged students through
group work and personal befriending. We also run parallel parenting
talks to our step-up kids' parents. We strongly believe that in
order to engage and help these kids we need to raise awareness and
impart knowledge and life skills to their parents. We run family
life education talks and workshops in the evenings. We currently
run Step-Up programs in Evergreen Primary School (2006) and Evergreen
Secondary School (2007).
As a VWO, besides running weekly programmes in character building,
instilling good values and habits to these students, we also help
to raise confidence in these students. We send them for rock climbing
activity. Students also initiate and help to run fund raising projects
through games and sale of food and other items. This year¡¯s beneficiary
is The Muscular Dystrophy Association Singapore (MDAS). In this
way students learn ways to tap on their resources and potential
to help others in need.
