The recent Parenting TALK was a success with 136 parents and 110 children participating in the event!

Registration was a swift and we started the programme at 09:45 am with the speaker Jason Yew attending to the parents at the auditorium while the children had a fun skit time and craft work with the volunteers.

The refreshment time was great for an informal get to know one another and ended with parents having a practical session in the form of two games where parents and child participated to bond the relationship. The event ends successfully at 12:45 pm.

We want to thank the volunteers and staff active involvement and also MCYC for sponsoring the goodies bags for the participants.

Social enterprises are For-profit companies that helps solved a need or problems in a community.

Although all companies helps to provide employment and solve the unemployment problems in community, social enterprise is very different in that it helps to solve problems or needs often neglected by many or has been dependent on self-help group.

So what does a Social Enterprises looks like? Below as an example of a Social Enterprise you can consider :

Night Owl CAR Wash

There are lots of Youth-At-Risk who have reached an age where they are considering employment. But their background caused many of these young people not able to assimilate into the community and make a living. These people have also developed a sleeping habit that is different from the general public; sleep during the day and awake at night.

Setting up the Night Owl Car Wash company will provide employment for these people. They will be trained to clean cars at car park at night. In that way, we can ensure that they are making full use of their time at night to generate income for their daily living. We also allow car owners to have a clean car to drive to work each day.

So how to get started?

1. Look at a social problem that you have interest to help

2. Think about how you can generate income and at the same time solve that problem.

3. Design your Business model and consider about sustainability.

4. Conduct the basic Business setup planning : Process-Policy-Procedures

Yap! That’s it!

Have you ever look at a construction site and see how long they took to lay the foundation for the building and after that they can complete the whole external construction in such a short time?

Well, this is because the laying of strong firm foundation is critical in anything we do.

What do I mean by laying a Firm Foundation?

In recent years, I have opportunities to talk with various academics and students from various universities and was quite shocked at the teaching they have embraced. These people discussed with me that there is “No Right or Wrong” in this world and we should accept everyone as they are. As I did a research on this ideology, I found that it has spread like plague into different countries and society.

The whole intention of this idealogy was good which emphasis on accepting people for who they are, but the whole concept of “No Right and Wrong” is completely nonsensical!

If there is “No Right or Wrong”, why do we need government or educational institutions? Everyone can do whatever they think is right. Just imagine a world with no authority! It will be complete chaos! In fact, this is precisely what happened in society. We can see the escalation of youth problems, civil unrest, families problems, and so forth. All these are the results of this ideology of “No Right and Wrong”!

So if there is Right and Wrong, then what are they? How are we going to embrace that value of acceptance and yet holding firm to the fundamental value of the existence of “Right and Wrong”?

To discuss into this, we need to understand some definition of words which are critical in our communication and understanding of this issue.

Everyone can take in knowledge, but each will develop their own perception of that knowledge. This is due to the background, values and so forth which helps to form the knowledge they attained into something they embraced. It is often difficult to change a person’s perception, however, we can help them to go back to the basic fundamental and let them arrive at the right perception which is conducive for healthy development.

So over here, we can see that we need to understand about the word “Perception”. Different perception does not mean there is no Right or Wrong in this world. it simply means the different responses that was form due to individual understanding. However, we need to accept people with different perception from ours. Accepting people with different perception is not about embracing their perception, but accepting them as a person. In short, it is about the concept of “Agree to disagree”. It is about giving the person time to know and understand Truth. So what is Truth?

I did a research on TRUTH and was quite shocked that not many people was able to define it in a convincing way. I have thought about it and has came out with a diagram to explain what is TRUTH which I believe a large population of the people in this world inspite of their background, ethnicity and religions can embrace.
